What is more ergonomic, a rectangular or L shaped desk?
The standard desk used in offices for decades has been the rectangular model. However, with the advent of the computer, the L-Shaped desk began to appear, offering more features and work space for a user. Ergonomically, though, the two designs have different impact on the body.
The L-Shaped Desk
The L-shape desk is designed via the addition of a shallow branch attached to a main rectangular desk. The units typically sit now either into the corner of a cubicle system or the corner of an office, with cabinets above for additional storage. Because the L-shape system offers more counter space, it can be beneficial for housing more materials on the desk surface itself as well as providing more work space for utilization. However, the L-shape desk typically comes with a surface height higher than what is comfortable for people to use a keyboard with. Either a keyboard bay has to be installed at a lower level or the person ends up with crunched shoulders working with arms raised to high.

First disclosure - I didn't want to spend more than $700 on a desk. However, once I started researching online, it became apparent that there wasn't a quality adjustable desk (frame and top) under $1,000. My selection was dramatically narrowed down. After talking to customer service at a few online shops, I decided this brand was right for me. It basically came down to price and durability. This desk can lift a fair amount of weight and is relatively cheap. I've had it for a couple months and so far so good. It doesn't have the design or features of another desk, but it simply works and I love standing. I didn't think I would stand this much, but it personally feels much better. I'm 6 foot tall and my knees to get close to the bar under the frame. I also purchased a cheap table top and screwed it on myself. This saved me a few hundred bucks. Overall, this desk works and was the right price for me. I think it's a solid value.
